THE SHREWD MANAGER

Croodekness and Cleverness

There have been a popular saying which I think; it was drawn from the summary of this Bible passage, Luke16:1-14. "Blessings to the servant which apply wisdom to its dealings." Yes, truly is it, but in what way? People do bad things [some things that cannot be written home about] and yet they quote that saying to back up their doings. People engaged in bribery, corruption, fraudulent activities, immoralities, ungodliness, rituals, and accept all things which the world have to offer [ it's pleasures and splendours ] without leaving the circle of Christendom, with their scriptural supportive idea from the single verse which concept have been wrongly misinterpreted for so long. I will want us to know that, this is an aspect where darkness had gain ground on beings, and we need to fulfill our mission as an envoy of God's light, eradicating the stand of dark influence through the word of light.

Apostle Paul had shared with us that we should study well with the help of the anointing in us which we have received at our new birth to teach us all things accordingly, so as to show our selves approved and acceptable before God. And moreover, it is very important to know that we are to rightly divide the word. I have once told us, there are many bible verses which have been misrepresented over the years, such as, GREATER IS HE IN HIM, THAN HIM IN THE WORLD, REEDEMING THE TIME, BECAUSE ALL DAYS ARE FULL OF EVIL, and many more.

INTRODUCTION
Luke 15-16 has been a lot of parables which talks more about our relationship with God: God as our creator, father, master, and from our end, obedience to our father, intimacy with our creator, diligence, faithfulness and loyalty to our master, and honesty in service [accountability]. It also talks on the description of a faithful shepherd and an astray sheep, loving father and his prodigal son, a well known rich man and his shrewd manager.

Who is Jesus talking to here? From the former chapter, Bible made it known to us that Jesus speaks to different sects. Initially, it was the publicans and sinners, Pharisees and scribes [the doctors and teachers of law], later at that same Spot, it was revealed that the disciples are also listeners, in fact the concerned.

Are we included? Yes we are. Jesus wants us to be wise in our dealings and as well take consciousness of who we are. Teaching us things pertaining to life and imparting our spirit with the knowledge of truth so as from its drawings, we can reach out to millions, encouraging them and teaching them how to solidify their feet breeding firm faith.

EXPOSITION
The question is why have most people been able to successfully misrepresent the word here? Is it because Jesus said we could be like the shrewd manager? Let’s see what Jesus said, considering verse eighth and ninth of Luke chapter sixteen. Luke 16:8 “And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations." Going through these verses, I discovered that Jesus did not mention we could, he said we should. It sounds awful, if our Lord is instructing us to follow the steps of an unjust steward. Verse eight of this same chapter says, a commended unjust steward. By rightly dividing the word, the master commended not the conduct, but the policy. That verse above reads, he was commended, not because of who he is, but because he had done wisely. Are we seeing that?

Comparing verse one and eight, it explains what was condemned and what was commended. Initially, from the earlier verse, what the master condemned was the conduct. But later he mentioned nothing about the conduct but its policy. We need to know that it is only a right policy that can convey a good conducts. There are two things about the manager which we must know: one, he is crooked and secondly, he is clever. Now I can clearly say to us, that Jesus was telling us to look after what he is and not to imitate who he is. From where it was clarified, Jesus mentioned two different entities, two different personality; the children of light and children of the world. When Jesus says, you do like him. This addresses the policy, the cleverness and not the conduct. This is what Christ followers are to be. "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:10. When Jesus was talking about true riches, he is teaching us to be able to rightly discern the notation between dishonesty and trust, crookedness and cleverness. Now the sons of this world are diligence in their dealings, so also should we in our works. This should keep on ringing to our hearing; dishonesty is not at all a part of godliness.

Apostle Paul speaking to the Corinthians, a strong caution in their dealings with the people outside the faith community. "And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?" 2 Corinthians 6:15. The engagement of a Christian in the gentiles business, brings nothing but loss and curse. "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful." Psalms 1:1. Jesus makes the separation clear enough. Their dealings and our dealings, the children of light and the children of the world. As they are in their way, so should we in our way.

Another question is what makes the worldly things flourish and spiritual things dying? People listen, patronize, engage and partake in the worldly things, but not to the spiritual, why? There are things to put in place. The infidels are often wiser than the believers, why? Christianity is not an excuse or permission unto mediocrity. This manager is not set to us as an example of cheating, but as a charge for our watchfulness and vigilance. The worldly people are careful in their dealings why should we be carefree with ours; they are diligent in their practice, why shouldn't we be.

The crooked manager maintain what he has at all cost, so Jesus says we should copy such principles to maintain what we have. What do we have? Salvation, life. The manager says, “It will be awful news, no going back to square one; I can't dig neither will I accept to be ridiculed.” Same thing, same confession, same determination is what Jesus wants us to hold unto, facilitating our steadfastness in faith. The manager did everything to retain his post, so we are to do everything to remain in the Lord. Not in a crooked means but with godly wisdom. There is a wisdom that makes one perishes and brings shame and trouble, but there is also wisdom available to all the children of light, which begins with the fear of God.
